Graphic Design:  Pens and Pixels

Graphics are all around us.  Little pictures and symbols creating thousands of words of meaning.  Great graphic design tells a lot  without saying much.  Subtle messages conveying large lumps of  meaning.  How do you do it right?  What is the secret?

When someone sees the final product of an illustration or graphic they may believe that because it looks clean, minimal and simple, that it was easy to create.  This couldn’t be further from the truth.  We spend countless hours tweaking the finest details and elements of a design before we feel it is “ready”.  Many revisions are needed to hone in on the concept or idea that will visually carry a message forward.

The fruits of our labor cannot truly be appreciated without understanding the process through which they come to be.  When we create design elements, whether they are logos or components to a website, they are a result of a process that is as much deliberate and analytical as it is subconscious.  Our minds think design thoughts, carried by experience, education and inspiration.

We carefully define the objectives of our clients through a series of meetings, interviews, and our own research into the industry.  When we begin to understand the problem at hand, the answers appear.  They may come in the form of a doodle in a notepad or playing with shapes and color on the computer.  Other times they are the result of a coincidental accident, dream, or inspiration from another designer’s work.   We are extremely creative by nature.  We simply can’t help it.  Design is our passion.
